Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert
Begin your desert adventure with a scenic drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and explore the cedar forests of Azrou where wild monkeys roam freely. Continue to Midelt, known for its apple orchards, where you’ll pause for lunch. After crossing the High Atlas and enjoying panoramic views through the Ziz Valley, arrive in Merzouga. Here, your camel caravan awaits to guide you across the dunes. Witness a spectacular sunset before reaching the desert camp, where a night of traditional music and stargazing awaits.
Day 2: Exploring the Desert – Nomadic Villages – Khamlia – Erg Chebbi
After sunrise and breakfast at the camp, delve deeper into the Saharan culture. Visit local nomadic families and discover how they live off the land. Stop in Khamlia village, home to the Gnaoua people, and enjoy their hypnotic spiritual music. Continue exploring hidden oases, desert lakes (seasonal), and local Berber markets. Return to the camp in the late afternoon for a second peaceful night amid the dunes.
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Todgha Gorge – Dades Valley
Leave the dunes behind and head toward Rissani, a historic market town known for its traditional souks and specialty dishes like Madfouna (Berber pizza). Travel through palm-filled oases and follow the winding roads into the dramatic Todgha Gorge, a favorite for climbers and photographers. After exploring the gorge and enjoying lunch, continue on to the breathtaking Dades Valley. Here, you’ll spend the night in a charming guesthouse nestled among ancient kasbahs and rocky formations.
Day 4: Dades Valley – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Your final day is rich in cultural heritage and natural splendor. Drive through the Valley of Roses and past traditional Berber villages to reach Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert and a famed film location. After a brief visit to local studios or a photo stop, continue to Aït Ben Haddou. Wander through this iconic fortified village, famous for its earthen clay architecture and film history.
